Subaru’s cars and SUVs have an impeccable reputation for safety, and the 2022 model year is no different. An impressive eight Subaru models were recently awarded with TOP SAFETY PICK+ and TOP SAFETY PICK status by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
TOP SAFETY PICK+ is the highest award given out by the IIHS. To win it, vehicles have to pass six rigorous collision tests to measure their crashworthiness in a variety of situations. TSP+ vehicles are also required to offer “advanced” or “superior” frontal crash technology and come standard with headlights rated “good” or “acceptable.”
Six Subaru models were awarded with TSP+ ratings:
2022 Crosstrek Hybrid
Meanwhile, TOP SAFETY PICK vehicles are required to pass all the same crash tests as TSP+ models. They also must offer the same frontal crash features. The only difference: TSP models can provide “good” or “acceptable” headlights as an option instead of a standard feature.
For this year, a pair of Subaru vehicles achieved TSP status:
2022 Impreza five-door
On top of their reliable crash ratings, most new Subaru vehicles come standard with an extensive suite of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology features. Enabled by cameras and sensors, these include Pre-Collision Braking and Throttle Management, Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Check the oil
Pop the hood and check your vehicle’s oil. If it’s running low, you’ll need to add more to keep your ride running the way it should. If your oil is dirty, you may also be due for an oil change. Check the tires
To help your vehicle operate at peak efficiency and safety, check the pressure for each of your tires to make sure it’s at the recommended level. It’s also a good idea to make sure the treads aren’t worn and that your tires aren’t damaged in any way.

Regular oil changes are vital for your Subaru’s health. And each time you add new motor oil, it’s important to make sure you’re using the right kind for your vehicle’s needs, your driving style, and the climate here in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Motor oil comes in four primary types. Conventional oil is the least expensive but is less pure doesn’t work as well at very high temperatures. Synthetic oil is more expensive, but it’s also purer, works better at high and low temperatures, and is more effective for heavy stop-and-go city driving.
You can also opt for synthetic blend oil, a combination of conventional and synthetic. If you’re driving an older vehicle, you may want to consider high-mileage oil, which has additives to counteract your engine’s age and help it run more smoothly.
Oil Viscosity Ratings
Motor oil is manufactured at a variety of viscosity (or thickness) ratings. Lower viscosity helps the oil work more effectively at lower temperatures. Oils are rated with numbers like 5W-30 and 10W-40. The lower the first number is, the better the oil will flow when you’re starting a cold engine. The lower the second number is, the better the oil will flow at the engine’s regular operating temperature.
If you don’t know which oil type and viscosity your Subaru needs, check your owner’s manual to learn more. And if you’re still not sure, never fear! Here at Copeland Subaru Hyannis, our trained service staff will help you choose the very best oil to maximize your vehicle’s performance and lifespan.

Without a functioning alternator, your car is in trouble. That’s because the alternator keeps the battery charged and enables you to do basic things like start the engine, play the radio, and use the headlights. Here are three of the most common signs that your alternator needs to be replaced.
The battery dies
Sometimes, a dead battery indicates alternator problems. If you jumpstart your vehicle after it goes dead and it quickly dies again, this is a sign that the alternator isn’t delivering enough juice to your battery.
Your car stalls or won’t start
If your alternator isn’t charging the battery, you’ll hear a clicking sound when you try to start your vehicle. And if it’s not delivering the proper power to the spark plugs, your vehicle may stall out.
Your lights and accessories act up
If your car’s lights are too dim, too bright, or frequently flickering, your alternator is probably failing. Another important alternator warning sign is malfunctioning accessories, like windows struggling to roll up and down, a glitchy speedometer, or a dead radio.
If you’re experiencing any of these issues, bring your vehicle to Copeland Subaru Hyannis in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Our expert service team will be happy to install a new alternator and get you back on the road.
